Abstract

While it is all too common for major construction projects to exceed their budgets and extend beyond their anticipated deadlines, at least one federally funded project seems to be on target.

The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station safety and environment upgrade (SPSE) and modernization (SPSM) is proceeding on budget and on schedule, Karl Erb, director of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Office of Polar Programs, told a U.S. House of Representatives science subcommittee during a June 9 hearing.
