Summary

A 290-meter vertical array of 3 hydrophones was used under the ice of McMurdo Sound, Ross Sea, to determine the depth and distance at which submerged seals (Leptonychotes weddelli) were calling. Certain acoustic anomalies in the sounds received indicate a marked forward and downward sound projection pattern for these seals.
