Application of photogrammetry to three-dimensional geodesy

The application of photogrammetry to three-dimensional geodesy is a highly specialized area of photogrammetric measurements. All measuring systems for this purpose are concerned with three-dimensional triangulation of selected points; they differ not so much in principle as in data acquisition techniques and ultimate purposes. In Europe the photogrammetric method is accepted as one of the tools of the geodetic discipline. Its application, however, has largely been limited to problems conventionally associated with the technology of mapping and, to an even lesser extent, of surveying. It is, therefore, quite another matter to consider the application of photogrammetry to tasks that are presently and unquestionably in the domain of classic geodetic triangulation.
