New geodetic marker

  • Anonymous

Recently a project that was initiated and managed by the Columbus Laboratories of Battelle Memorial Institute positioned a geodetic marker on the Pacific Ocean floor 130 miles southwest of Los Angeles. It may well be the first step in the development of a practical means for precisely establishing locations in the ocean. The placing of the marker is the culmination of an experiment being conducted by several organizations that include Aerojet-General Corporation, Bendix Electrodynamics Division, and Seismograph Service Corporation's SEISCOR Division. Creating the marine geodetic control point required a joint effort of sea, air, and land research teams.
