Planetary waves studied

  • Anonymous

A four-year investigation is being made in the Pacific Ocean for unseen and elusive ocean waves that are thought to be about 1000 miles in length and take two weeks to a month to complete one cycle. Planetary waves are believed to be caused by the gravitational attraction of the sun and moon on the earth. The investigation is being conducted by scientists of the Environmental Science Services Administration and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, headed by Henry M. Stommel, Carl I. Wunsch, and Steacy Hicks.
