Seven government agencies, twenty universities, and seven industrial laboratories are participating in the three-month Barbados Oceanographic and Meteorological Experiment (BOMEX). The project is basically a study of the interactions between sea and air and includes emphasis on small-scale weather phenomena. BOMEX scientists are using cosmicray induced Beryllium-7 as tracer in their study of the mixing of the atmosphere and upper layers of the ocean. Data from an instrument cluster on the Floating Laboratory Instrument Platform indicate a previously unrecorded relationship between temperature and humidity in small atmospheric fronts.
