Federal plan for clear air turbulence

The Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Transportation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration have announced a plan to better understand clear air turbulence.

Strong emphasis will be placed upon the development of airborne remote detection devices and accurate prediction of clear air turbulence areas for preflight planning. The plan also includes the creation of a national CAT forecasting facility, improved criteria for identifying and reporting, and for aircraft design, and better flight techniques, instrumentation, and pilot-aircraft response.
