Speed-up for anti-pollution patent processing

  • Anonymous

The Patent Office has instituted new procedures for speeding up the processing of patents relating to anti-pollution. It is expected that the new procedures will cut the processing time from three years to six or eight months.

Starting immediately, the Commissioner said, any industrial or individual applicant with a device that can aid in the curbing of environmental abuses may take advantage of a priority processing of his application by submitting a written explanation of how his invention relates to the maintenance or restoration of one of the basic life-sustaining elements: air, water, or soil. The priority processing will apply not only to future applications, but also to those already in the Patent Office.
