An inexpensive self-powered marker buoy generates an ultrasonic signal detectable to over 1000 yards. Its prime purpose is to mark underwater stations that are to be monitored at intervals, to mark diving sites or for use as a navigational aid.
Models are available with coded or modulated output signals for identification and even for transmitting information in connection with collection of subsurface data.
