A summer Advanced Study Institute on Physics and Chemistry of Upper Atmospheres will be held July 31—August 11, 1972, at the University of Orléans, Orléans, France. The purpose of the Institute is to present and discuss experimental and theoretical results and to help educate predoctoral and postdoctoral students and new researchers in the physics and chemistry of upper atmospheres. The Institute will identify important areas of agreement and disagreement and will focus attention on multidisciplinary research and key problems of the future. The twoweek institute will have about 40 one-hour lecture periods with adequate time for discussions. Emphasis will be on physical and chemical processes and phenomena rather than on specific observational techniques.
