Abstract

A $10,000 gift to Princeton University in 1872, which has since grown into a fund with a market value approaching $150,000, is helping underwrite a new Professorship of Geophysics and Geological Engineering. The professorship is named in honor of an 1860 Princeton graduate and benefactor who was dismayed by the ‘dishonesty’ of nineteenth century engineers.
