The Schonstedt Instrument Company has announced the development of its Spinner Magnetometer for the measurement of the magnetization of geological core samples.
The sample is spun within a six-layer magnetic shield to minimize effects from ambient magnetic disturbances. The system is designed to be relatively insensitive to ambient mechanical vibration. No special structure is required to support the instrument. A low spin speed of 5 revolutions per second permits the spinning of fragile samples and assures longer wear of rotating parts. The instrument has full-scale ranges from 5 emu to 1×10−7 emu. The sensitivity at which the instrument is operated is indicated by means of an illuminated display on the panel of the electronic unit.
