An effort is now under way to try to learn more about hailstorms and to test the feasibility of reducing their destructive power by seeding them with silver iodide or other substances. It appears that the right amount of such seeding materials, introduced into a hailstorm at the right time and place, can make the storm exhaust its moisture in rain or small hailstones, rather than holding the moisture long enough for large, destructive hailstones to grow.
