The newly created position of Federal Coordinator for Ocean Mapping and Prediction at NOAA will be assumed as an additional duty by Oceanographer of the Navy Rear Admiral William W. Behrens, Jr. He will be responsible for ensuring that the efforts of all federal agencies engaged in ocean mapping, charting, and geodesy, and marine environmental prediction are property coordinated. He will also be responsible for seeing that federal government-wide plans are prepared for achieving national objectives in these marine activities.
