Abstract

The nation's first degree program in energy resources development and management will be established at the University of Pittsburgh. Dean of the university's School of Engineering Harold E. Hoelscher, said that ‘Our national energy policies have too often been reactions to crises and what is needed is the long-range planning the university can do ….’ S. David Freeman, currently Assistant Director for Energy and Environment in President Nixon's Office of Science and Technology, will join the university to establish the program.

His initial responsibility will be to design a curriculum that will emphasize the interdisciplinary knowledge required for efficient development and management of national energy resources.
