Air and space studies planned for southwest

  • Anonymous

An area in Arizona, extending from the Mexican border to Prescott, and from the New Mexico State line westward to the Yuma County line, has been selected as a special target for ecological studies based on remote sensor data from high-altitude aircraft and earth-orbiting satellites. Designated as ARETS (Arizona Regional Ecological Test Site), the project will be directed by University of Arizona, Office of Arid Land Studies, under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey, and in cooperation with NASA. Participation includes other federal, state, and local agencies having environmental interests in the region. Highlight targets for study will be the Phoenix-Tucson metropolitan areas.
