World's largest radio antenna to be resurfaced

Cornell University and the National Science Foundation have announced the award of a $3,764,213 contract to the Garland Division of LTV Electro systems, Inc., in Dallas, Texas, to upgrade the 1000-foot-diameter antenna reflector of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC) located near the city of Arecibo in Puerto Rico. The observatory is a national research center managed by Cornell under contract with NSF.
