The fourteenth Symposium on Rock Mechanics will be held June 12–14, 1972, at the Pennsylvania State University. It is sponsored by the U.S. National Committee for Rock Mechanics and the Department of Mineral Engineering of Penn State. The general theme of the symposium is ‘New Horizons in Rock Mechanics.’ Tentatively, sessions will be held on rapid excavation, automation in rock mechanics research, basic and applied studies relative to coal mining and to underground and surface hardrock mining, slope stability, and earthquake research.
