The National Science Foundation's budget request for fiscal year 1973 totals $653 million in proposed new appropriations, some 13% higher than last year. Included in the total are some programs of particular interest to geophysicists:

The Global Atmospheric Research Program (GARP)—$3.5 million (40% increase over FY 1972). The primary portion of this will go toward preparations for the FY 1974 GARP Atlantic Tropical Experiment (GATE).
