Abstract

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has organized the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment, and Prediction Program (MARMAP), a national program to evaluate the living marine resources of waters off the United States. Also involved in the MARMAP project are government agencies and components of NOAA, several international marine organizations, almost a dozen state universities, and a number of research vessels from other nations.

The first set of seasonal cruises by NOAA fleet vessels Albatross IV, Delaware II, and Oregon II will cover 19,000 miles from the Gulf of Maine to the northern Caribbean Sea, and will be completed early in 1973. Their purpose is to assess distribution of fish eggs and larvae (ichthyoplankton).
