The Nineteenth Annual Meeting of the Pacific Northwest Region was held October 16 and 17, 1972, on the campus of the University of British Columbia. The informal setting provided a very pleasant backdrop for the 79 registrants. The program consisted of 47 contributed papers and 8 invited papers.
A symposium entitled ‘Social and Environmental Aspects of Geophysics’ was arranged and chaired by R.M. Ellis of the University of British Columbia. It examined both some of man's involuntary influences on the atmosphere, oceans and solid earth, and man's conscious activities with beneficial results such as local climate modification and earthquake control.
