The National Science Foundation is selecting candidates for the Graduate Fellowships Program. Panels of eminent scientists appointed by the National Research Council will evaluate qualifications of applicants. Final selection will be made by the Foundation, with awards to be announced on March 15, 1974.
Initial NSF Graduate Fellowship awards are intended for students at or near the beginning of their graduate study. In general those eligible to apply will be college seniors or first-year graduate students this fall; eligibility is limited to individuals who by fall 1974 will have completed not more than one year of full-time or part-time graduate-level study. Subject to the availability of funds, new fellowships awarded in the spring of 1974 will be for periods of three years, the second and third years contingent on certification to the Foundation by the fellowship institution of the student's satisfactory progress toward an advanced degree in the sciences.
