Abstract

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences promotes research and teaching in the physical sciences related to the earth and its environment. CIRES is jointly supported by the University of Colorado and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and serves as a center for multidisciplinary collaboration of research workers from the numerous scientific laboratories in Boulder and elsewhere. Currently, the principal research interests are in the mechanics of the solid earth, earthquakes, the geomagnetic field and paleomagnetism, electrical and electromagnetic phenomena within the earth, its atmosphere, and the space around it, and the dynamics of the atmosphere.

The Visiting Fellows Program provides an opportunity for outstanding scientists working in appropriate fields to spend a period of time, normally one year, at CIRES.
