Abstract

A new subcommittee on meteorology formed by the American Society for Testing Materials will have as its purpose the definition of meterological variables and formulation of standard methods for sampling and analyzing them. The subcommittee will be responsible for selection of relevant nomenclature and stimulation of research to accomplish its purpose.

Methods of measuring atmospheric pressure, wind velocity, and turbidity will receive the subcommittee's first attention, the ASTM indicates, because these variables ‘are being measured with increasing frequency by people who are not trained in the techniques of making meteorological measurements.’
