A contract to analyze and predict the quality of air in and surrounding a proposed 9.2-mile freeway section near Portland, Oregon, has been awarded to Systems, Science and Software of La Jolla, California, by the Oregon State Highway Department.

The purpose of the three-month study is to predict the future air quality in terms of the projected concentrations of carbon monoxide, nonreactive total hydrocarbons, and lead for the years 1978, 1985, and 1990. The study will provide information on pollution expected under calm wind and light wind conditions with highly stable air masses.
