With all due respect to Dr. Morse of Massachusetts, I must submit an opinion quite opposite to the one he expressed in the March 1974 EOS Forum page. I find the advance publishing of abstracts one of the most valuable aspects of EOS. GAP (Geophysical Abstracts in Press) emphasizes the value of a well-written abstract, which should convey the most important results. Second, it expedites publication of those essential details. Finally, few of us can afford personal subscriptions to all the journals of AGU, and the abstracts tell us which issues in a library are worth tracking down.
