The Mineralogical Society of America will sponsor a short course on sulfide mineralogy from November 15 to 17, 1974, immediately preceding the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in Miami.
The course will consist of a fundamental review of the crystal chemistry, phase equilibriums, bonding, and physical and chemical properties of sulfide materials. Topics to be included are basic and derivative structures, polymorphism, polytypism, nonstoichiometry, and exsolution; phase equilibriums of mineralogically important systems, experimental techniques, kinetics, and thermochemistry; and crystal field, molecular orbital, and band theory as applied to sulfides.
