Problems related to the redefinition of North American Geodetic Networks

One hundred twenty delegates from twenty-four countries met in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on May 20th to 25th to participate in an international symposium related to the new adjustments of the North American geodetic networks.

The geodetic agencies of Canada, Mexico, and the United States have cooperated for many years in the general development and extension of these control survey networks. Now, because of the remarkable achievements of the last decade, they recognize that it is an opportune time to adopt a new datum for the continental horizontal control network, one that will be accurately referenced to the networks of all other continents, with consideration that it be earth-centered and a part of a worldwide geodetic system.
