Thermal Pollution Study undertaken by CERI

With funding from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the Clean Energy Research Institute (CERI) of the University of Miami, Florida, has launched the first phase of research to develop a means of detecting and predicting thermal pollution.

A mathematical model will be developed on the basis of studies of hot water discharges into ocean waters from a fossil fuel plant and discharges of saline water from nuclear plant cooling canals. In addition to on-site measurements, data will be gathered by NASA aircraft and satellites using infrared and laser remote sensing techniques.
