Abstract

The American Geological Institute (AGI) has awarded the first scholarship under its Minority Participation Program to Fernando Blackgoat, a Navajo geology student at Northern Arizona University of Flagstaff. The $2000 for the scholarship was provided by AGU.

AGI is now accepting nominations for scholarships for minority geoscience majors and expects to award five or more scholarships averaging $2000 each by the end of this year. Funds for the scholarships are provided by AGI member societies, corporate members and associates, other corporations, and individuals. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic excellence, need, and probable future success in the geoscience family of professions.
