Representatives from four universities will start a project soon to obtain several profiles of the earth's deep crust and upper mantle to provide a better understanding of that region. Data obtained from the project could help petroleum geologists better understand sedimentary basins where much of the earth's oil deposits have been found.
The work will be done under a one-year grant of $378,100 by the National Science Foundation to Cornell University, which will coordinate the effort.
