Gilbert F. Cochran, recently of the Desert Research Institute of the University of Nevada system, joined the staff of the U.S. National Committee for the IHD in October. He succeeds Henry S. Santeford, Jr., who resigned in May to become a research hydrologist with the National Weather Service in Anchorage, Alaska.
Since 1968 the new staff officer has been, successively, associate research professor, acting director, and deputy director of the Center for Water Resources Research at the Desert Research Institute. During this period he taught graduate level courses in hydrology (principally in ground water-related fields), and served as a student advisor and on graduate examining committees. His professional specialty is the development of mathematical models.
