Geo-Art: Plate and platonic solids

In 1933, as a student in meteorology browsing through the library, I first ran into the book by Alfred Wegner entitled Kontinental Vershiebung (Continental Drift). Wegner was a meteorologist, but it was not mere loyalty to a fellow meteorologist but rather a stirring feeling for the art of the beautiful simplicity of his ideas (unproven at that time) that wedded me to the idea of continental drift.

Throughout the ensuing years, when it was fashion to discard and pooh-pooh this grand scheme, I still believed it was too beautiful to be bad.
