Members of AGU who are looking for volunteer manpower and financial support for their field research activities might apply to the Center for Field Research for aid. This non-profit organization fosters private sponsorship for field research in the natural and social sciences (including geology, meteorology, and marine sciences) that involves field work.
The center attempts to arrange financial support for researchers who can effectively use nonprofessional assistants in the field. Selection is based on the merit and expected significance of the proposed research. Other criteria include the principal investigator's publication history, teaching experience, and contributions to his specialized discipline; a feasible budget; and the soundness of plans for instructing amateur assistants in research procedures and making use of their skills in field activities.
