France joins IPOD

The French National Center for the Exploitation of the Oceans and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) today signed a memorandum of understanding providing for French support and participation in the international phase of ocean drilling (IPOD) of the Deep-Sea Drilling Project (DSDP).

Under the memorandum, France will contribute $1 million annually for 3 years in support of the DSDP. With the signing, France joins Great Britain, Japan, and the USSR as countries that have joined the United States in the project's international phase.
