Abstract

On the following pages we have printed responses to a set of questions submitted to the two major presidential candidates. In so doing, it has not been our intention to favor one over the other but rather to inform our membership on how each candidate views science and the role that it plays in government. We have done this in response to concern expressed by members that the Union should take a more active role in providing information on scientific activities and science policy development both within the executive and congressional arenas. Admittedly, the questions we posed to the candidates may seem to some to be too broad and perhaps even naive; however, by keeping questions brief and general we felt there was a better chance of receiving meaningful answers. Each reader can interpret these responses and react according to his or her own conscience.
