Abstract

The Clean Air Act of 1970 divided the country into Air Quality Control Regions. At that time the goal of compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) was set for 1975. Subsequently, the deadline for attaining primary NAAQS in some areas was extended to 1977. These maps compiled from 1976 Environmental Protection Agency data by Environmental Research & Technology, Inc., show how the nation is progressing toward the primary NAAQS.
