Abstract

Accurate all-weather information concerning globally distributed sea state, wind speed, and Gulf Stream velocity and position data are now available through the near-real time Ocean Dynamics Information System of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). A computer- maintained data file can be reached with a standard telephone remote terminal setup.

The Ocean Dynamics Information System provides data from the Geos 3 satellite. An iterative technique has been developed for the fitting of an average narrow-pulse radar altimeter return wave form from Geos 3 with a four-parameter function derived from fundamental microwave rough scattering theory.
