Mine roof collapse

Abstract

On the after noon of July 2, 1948, while returning from geological work, I took a short cut along the trail pictured across the upper edge of the view (Illustration of Mine Roof Collapse at the Mammoth Coal Mine North of Sheridan, Wyoming (EOS, 60 (3), p. 28)). I might be mistaken of the exactspot, but the slightly elongated ‘collapse’ in the upper left corner seems to be the place where my Chevrolet car dropped, catching on the front and the rear bumpers. There were no signs of any sort posted and there was only pastured prairie. A high center in the trail had made me drive just off the edge.
