Noel W. Hinners, the NASA Associate Administrator for Space Science, has accepted appointment as Director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, effective in April.

Hinners joined NASA in 1972 as the Deputy Director and Chief Scientist, Apollo Lunar Exploration, Office of Manned Space Flight. He was named to his current position June 26,1974. He was awarded NASA's highest honors, the Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal in 1971, and the Distinguished Service Medal in 1977.
