Abstract

The fiscal year 1981 budget for NASA is part of an overall trend to increase R & D spending. The R & D budget for defense has had a major increase of well over 15% for F Y 1981. T h i s includes almost half of the $35 billion slated for R & D in the federal budget. The NSF R & D budget is increasing to above $1 billion, as the basic research programs are increasing by more than 15%. NASA's budget overall will be increased by 8%. This is higher than the increases for other agencies, which are set at approximately 6% (some agencies will not have a budget increase).
