Not many geophysicists In Industry and academia are aware that the National Science Foundation (NSF), Division of Applied Research (Directorate for Engineering and Applied Science) has a granting program in applied research that places special emphasis on geophysics. Recently released figures for FY 1979 indicate that approximately $16 million was awarded in grants, ranging in duration from 6 months to 3 years. Geophysicists were awarded approximately $1.5 million of this budget. Elements of this NSF program that include geophysical research are the Physical, Mathematical, and Engineering Applications Program; the Geophysical and Environmental Applications Program; and the Small Business Research Program. The following projects received support in FY 1979.
