New oceanography award

The Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, has established the A. G. Huntsman Award for Excellence in Marine Science in order to honor men and women of any nationality who have had a significant influence on the course of marine scientific thought.

The award is given in honor of Archibald Gowanlock Huntsman (1883–1972), a noted Canadian oceanographer. Recipients will receive a silver medal and participate in a lecture series. Each year, the award will be given, on a rotating basis, in one of three categories: biological oceanography, physical/chemical oceanography, and marine geoscience. Because this is the first year of the award, presentations have been made in all three categories.
