Problems in the management of gravel-bed rivers

In the past, fluvial research has concentrated on rivers with sand beds. Only recently has more attention been focused on flow in gravel-bed rivers. As a result, knowledge about fluvial and sedimentary processes in gravel-bed rivers is limited. Fundamental knowledge of this type is essential to the management of such rivers. Similarly, growth in the use of deterministic modeling of rivers demands basic data on channel processes and characteristics.
