Abstract

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) have created the first research institute ever designed to utilize satellite data in probing the weather.

The institute will be called the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). It is the sixth cooperative institute established by NOAA. The others cover environmental science, atmospheric studies, and oceanography.
