Air pollution study in northeast

Two federal agencies, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are studying the effects of Northeastern-produced ozone, or photochemical smog, upon regional air quality.

‘Ozone’ is defined as a by-product of the chemical reaction that occurs when sunlight strikes the hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides emitted by automobiles, industrial smokestacks, and other sources.
