To facilitate understanding of the tsunami, the National Geophysical and Solar-Terrestrial Data Center (NGSDC), also known as World Data Center A, has compiled a set of data bases for tsunami research and operations.
The data bases include digital and analog seismograms from the Worldwide Standard Seismograph Network and the derived information on epicenter, magnitude, and focal mechanisms; hydrographic data from tide records; digital bathymetric data; and photographs. The data center publishes catalogs on tsunamis in Alaska and Hawaii. It also operates a modest guest worker program and can provide access to computers, digitizers, and plotters and data files. Limited financial help is available to researchers who need access to large amounts of data.
