Abstract

Wreckage of the rescue ship H. M. S. Breadalbane is outlined in this side-scan sonar ‘picture.’ The ship was sunk in 1853 during a mission to rescue Sir John Franklin's expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. The Breadalbane was sunk by ice in the Arctic near Resolute Bay, Canada. Note that the ship is sitting upright with two of its three masts still in place.
