Something that has not been mentioned yet in the appeal for gifts to AGU is the possibility of funding a scholarship that would be administered by the AGU. To keep geophysics an alive and vital discipline, we must continue to attract the best young minds to the field. If we established a well endowed fund with sufficient resources to more than adequately fund a graduate student through 2 or possibly 3 years of graduate work, the attendant publicity and nationwide attention could do much to attract these good young minds to our field.
In your talks with potential donors I urge you to keep the possibility of scholarship endowments in mind.
