Exploration of the Polar Upper Atmosphere

Authors

Abstract

Exploration of the Polar Upper Atmosphere is primarily a compilation of tutorial lectures on the many aspects of geophysics that comprise research of the high latitude atmosphere and its extension into space. The topics covered range from the stratosphere to the solar wind, touching on neutral and plasma dynamics as well as atmospheric chemistry. On reading this volume one will probably be impressed with the breadth of the field and with the breadth of knowledge that is required for understanding. This impression is undoubtedly enhanced by the fact that the NATO Advanced Study at which these lectures were given was broader in scope than were previous advanced studies on similar topics.
